So… After a few weeks of procedures, surgeries, doctor’s appointments and bed rest I am back and ready to blog.
While I was on a hiatus, I started crafting. I just finished up something special for someone’s special day that I mentioned last week and I am super excited about it. Here is a sneak peak and I will share more about my latest ventures next week!

Although I am still in recovery mode I had a great weekend.

Friday night, I spent with an amazing girlfriend
as she helped me work on that something special for someone's special day. That is all I can say!
Saturday was just a lazy day at home with the husband. Cleaned the house and just cuddled up on the couch and took it easy.

We had an awesome BBQ for my Mom's birthday to cap off the weekend. The family was all at our house just enjoying great food, company and wine! Oh, and did I mention the Sharks won!

Idol Thursday { On Friday }

I was so excited for Shania Twain this week on Idol.

Let. me. tell. you! Casey James blew me out of the water with his version of "Don't". He did such an amazing job. If there are any performances you have to watch, this is it!

I am pretty sad that Siobhan Magnus was the contestant eliminated this week. I am going to miss the originality and personality she has. She was never afraid to be her own person and I admire and adore that about her.

Sorry I have been so behind in blogging lately.

Reason 1: I have just been a slacker.
Reason 2: I have had 2 procedures in 2 weeks and they have taken a lot out of me.
Reason 3: I have been working on something special for someone special and it has been taking up my nights.
Reason 4: I had a cold.
Reason 5: Work has been too crazy to do anything but work :( .

Once I am back to normal from surgery Wednesday I will definitely be back to blogging as normal.

Idol Thursday { Idol Gives Back }

This week on American Idol the theme was inspirational songs. The mentor was Alicia Keys. I. Love. Crystal. Bowersox. She sang an amazing version of People Get Ready. She dropped the guitar for this performance and is was AMAZING.

Also, this week was Idol Gives Back. I am in love with the performance by Joss Stone and Jeff Beck. I have always been a huge fan of hers. Check out her performance!

Idol Thursday { A little late }

Sorry for the late post. No excuses.

Last week on Idol was Elvis Week. I am pretty excited becuase who doesn't love Elvis and with Adam Lambert as the mentor I knew the contestants performances would be a little more this time around.

I am in love with Lee Dewyze. He is always good and has that rocker in him that I love. He put his own twist on "A Little Less Conversation" and it was fantastic. Check it out below.

On the other hand, two contestants were eliminated this week after the judges saved Michael Lynche last week. Going home was Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia. It is always sad but I think it was the right choice.

This weekend I will be painting our bathroom. After compulsively looking at paint colors by Behr I have narrowed it down to 4 different colors.

Right now, our bathroom is very boring and very plain. I love baths so I spend at least an hour a day in the bathroom so it is important that it is a place to enjoy a good book, maybe have a glass of wine and just relax.

Thinking a neutral wall, white linens and some splashes of color.

So, I need you help. Which color do you love?

Idol Thursday

I told myself last week I was going to start doing some weekly posted. Shelby Nycole does it all the time and I have always loved her blog. So, I give you Idol Thursdays.

For the last 9 seasons I have been a die hard American Idol fan. Silly I know, but I can't help it. I love watching how talented the contestants are and watching them grow and their dreams coming true. Plus they sing some amazing covers.

This week was Beatles. Songs written by the amazing duo that is Lennon/McCartney. Michael Lynche has been a definite fave of mine since the beginning and I am so happy that he was saved last night by the judges because he deserves to be on that stage. When he sings he tells a story and it gives me goosebumps.

Jam Packed Weekend

I have a busy, busy, busy weekend planned for myself but I am very excited about it. As long as I am not at the office, I am happy. Very long, very strange, and very hard week.

So, here is my to-do list. Cross your fingers I get it some accomplished.

1. BBQ with friends tonight! Yes - it is rainy and cold but we still BBQ here in the great Northwest.

2. Grocery Shopping - Trader Joe's, Top Foods, Costco and Target. Phew.

3. Ikea trip. So excited to get some little things for the new place. Gotta get done for { FAVORITE } Aunt Candy's visit. Countdown still going... 19 more days.

4. Painting. Mancave, bathroom, master and maybe my dressing room if I am feeling uber inspired. Color suggestions?

5. Crafting! I found this awesome collage of pictures that I want to do on the wall adjacent of the mantle in the living room with wedding pictures! It is about time I make some prints and get them up on the walls. Also, my Etsy shop needs some serious TLC. Photos still come, promise!

First Weekend of March

What did you do this weekend?

My weekend was the perfect mix of fun and getting things accomplished.

Saturday Corrie and I went to Pike's Place Market to just enjoy the sunshine, get out of the house and get some gorgeous flowers for the new house. I purchased some fresh and some dried. I also got these fabulously delicious plums from one of the vendors. To die for.

Sunday I finally started unpacking bins and getting the house in order. It is starting to look like a home. Lots of projects to go though... If the hubby will let me hehe. I think he is getting a little tired of his honey-do lists but he loves me so he does them anyways. Bless his heart :)

I'm back! Not to make excuses but things have been a little too hectic to blog lately.

So, let's go back to Valentine's Day. The hubby and I had an amazing dinner at the Metropolitan Grill on Saturday night. Neither of us had ever been and we got a gift certificate for our wedding. Let me just say, their food, steaks, and drinks are incredibly delicious. I think it is my new favorite place.

Since then, the Janes household has been non stop busy. I have been packing up the house and Dustin has been painting the new place and getting things in order. We moved over the last weekend and there is still so much to do. I am so excited to be done so I can decorate and make it ours. I have been getting so many amazing ideas from magazines, blogs, etc and can't wait to turn our all white abode into something bright, cozy and colorful. Any ideas?

Happy New Year!!!

2009 I will remember you fondly. It was filled with hi's and low's but no matter what it will be a year I look back on always. Cheers to 2010 being even better.

These last few weeks have been a little hectic for the Janes'. With holiday fun, sickness { me of course }, work and many, many family & friend days we are just now catching our breathe and getting back in the swing of things for 2010.

I have also been deciding on my 2010 New Year's Resolutions! I know the year has already begun but I want to pick things I can STICK TOO! More to come...

This weekend I plan to just relax, maybe clean the house and catch up on laundry. Saturday we will celebrating the closing of a friends new house with a Trash the House party. Don't worry, the whole house is being remodeled.

Dear Blog,

I am sorry I have been neglecting you lately but I really do have some good { and bad } excuses.

- I am really upset with you because no matter how many tutorials I take or how many times I try you will not allow me to make my header or posts full page. Enough of the white space in the margins!!!

- I have been VERY busy with holiday wonderfullness. Homemade gifts take time and Christmas shopping traffic and lines are pure mayhem.

- With my new job not allowing me to sit at home and work while I watch my shows I have had to invest my nights catching up on my DVR.

-So much going on that when I am home, I AM LAZY!

I will try and do better but seriously, if you could help me out a little with my #1 excuse that would be great and very much appreciated.

Holiday Recipe of the Week { White Chocolate & Peppermint Brownies }

Peppermint Brownies with White Chocolate Chips and Peppermint Bark

Ingredients:
1 box brownie mix*
*I like to use apple sauce instead of the oil. Makes them moister and just a tad healthier!
1/2 tsp peppermint extract
1 box candy canes
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 package good quality white chocolate for melting

Directions:
Prepare brownies according to package directions and add 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract
and 1 cup white chocolate chips to batter. Cook according to package directions.
Cool brownies completely. Once brownies have cooled cut into desired size pieces
(after the drizzled white chocolate is on the brownies it is nearly impossible to cut
them without having the white chocolate crack and break). Crush candy canes in plastic
bag; set aside. Melt white chocolate over double boiler or in a microwave safe dish.
Place melted chocolate in piping bag. Liberally drizzle pre-cut brownies with white
chocolate and immediately sprinkle with candy cane pieces while the chocolate is still wet.

1. Dustin. Hands down he is the best husband anyone could ask for. Enough said!

2. Starbucks. My Venti Iced Soy Chai Tea Lattes are SO tasty and my new sweat proof cup is my new obsession. I can't drink anything out of anything else.

3. Hand Sanitizer. I am constantly using it. I have one in every nook and cranny. If I leave the house without it I just don't feel right. Dustin teases me always but I don't care. I am addicted.

4. Blogging. I am not sure how I survived without it for all these years. I am always trying to make it better and thinking of what I can blog about next.

5. Gator(s). It has been my namesake for as long as I can remember and you can find them anywhere in my life. They make me think of my Brookie and they bring the biggest smile to my face.

Hubby and I had an amazing time in SJ for the holiday. Our days were full of family, games, crazy "Black Friday" lines, laughs { Dany } and food. Tom was juicy and amazing, Rene's potatos were devine as always, green beans with prosciutto and gorgonzola cheese... Need I go on...?

I am so thankful for this last year. While it has been hard at times it has been so amazing. I married the man I can't wait to spend my life with and we have amazing family and friends to surround and support us no matter what. I really am a VERY lucky girl!

Friday at Noc Noc was a blast. Turned into a mini high school reunion. Wierd!

Saturday was baking, baking, baking. Nummy delicious. Still a bit more to do today before we head to SJ tomorrow night.

Capping off the weekend I had a pamper day. Got my hair cut and had a pedi with my sis. I really needed it.

Recipe of the Week { Nanaimo Bars }

This weekend mom and I are getting together to make holiday cookies and treats. We always make several different kinds and eat way to many in the process but since I can remember Nanaimo Bars have always been a personal fave. So, I thought I would share the recipe with all of you. What's your favorite cookie or holiday treat?

Bar:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 3/4 graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup shredded sweetened coconut

Filling:
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar, lightly spooned
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoon instant vanilla pudding mix
2-3 tablespoons milk

Topping:
2 tablespoons butter or shortening
6 ounces bittersweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9 inch square pan with Release foil.
In a large mixing bowl, stir together melted butter, sugar and cocoa. Stir in egg and vanilla. When smooth, add crumbs, walnuts and coconut. Press crumb mixture tightly into the pan and bake for 10 minutes. Let cool completely.
In a mixing bowl, stir together butter and powdered sugar, then beat with an electric mixer until fluffy. Beat in vanilla, pudding mix and milk. Spread the filling over the cooled crust, then chill for about an hour.
Prepare topping. Melt the butter or shortening with the chocolate chips. Pour over top of bars and chill just until the bars start to set. Before the chocolate gets too hard, score the bars into squares.

Here We Come { SNOW }

December 5th the Janes' are headed to Leavenworth. I have been going since I was a little girl but this will be the first year I get to share the tradition with Dustin. We get to spend time with family and friends, enjoy all the holiday festivities that the Tree Lighting Ceremony brings, drink Bavarian beers, get a new ornament from Kris Kringle and eat a lot of delicious street fair. Oh, and we can't forget the liquor store { they have the best shopping in the whole town. } Aren't traditions the best?

This weekend the hubby and I don't have any official plans. I am sure we will get into something though...

And last, I got the call. I got the job. I start on the 30th and I couldn't be more excited.

Date Night At Home

Last night Dustin and I had a casual little date night at home. I made some super scrumptious Manicotti and Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breasts. Then, we caught up on our fave shows together. Love the new show White Collar!!!

While I was sick I didn't get to see him much so it was nice to just relax at home and spend time with the hubby.

Back in the Saddle

For the last few weeks I have been battling swine flu and my blog has definitely been lacking posts. Not good. And, now that I am healthy again I have been busy trying to catch up.

Saturday morning I went shopping with mom and she bought me some fabulously comfortable new shoes for my interview today. It went great, I think it was the shoes! Thanks Mom.

After a day of shopping, I went out for dinner and drinks at one of my fave restaurants, Azul with Miss Bria Lynn. They have the best chips and salsa. I could eat there every meal but definitely wish I was able to indulge in margaritas again.

Lastly, the weather in the great Northwest has been cold and rainy to say the least. The hubby and I are counting down the days to Cali for Thanksgiving with family. Missing everyone tons!!!

The organization works to ensure that people with seizures are able to participate in all life experiences; to improve how people with epilepsy are perceived, accepted and valued in society; and to promote research for a cure. In addition to programs conducted at the national level, epilepsy clients throughout the United States are served by more than 50 Epilepsy Foundation affiliates around the country.

Epilepsy is a medical condition that produces seizures affecting a variety of mental and physical functions. It’s also called a seizure disorder. When a person has two or more seizures, they are considered to have epilepsy.

A seizure happens when a brief, strong surge of electrical activity affects part or all of the brain. One in 10 adults will have a seizure sometime during their life.

Seizures can last from a few seconds to a few minutes. They can have many symptoms, from convulsions and loss of consciousness to some that are not always recognized as seizures by the person experiencing them or by health care professionals: blank staring, lip smacking, or jerking movements of arms and legs.

Recipe of the Week { Norwegian Krumkake }

With the holiday season quickly approaching I have been craving my favorite holiday treat ... Krumkake. Time for a visit to The Lefse Store.

A Favorite Norwegian Recipe
A delightful krumkake, easy to handle and roll into a cone, yet light and crispy.

2/3 stick butter (5 tbsp.)
2/3 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1 cup general purpose flour

{ Makes about 20 krumkakes }

1. Melt the butter carefully in a microwave oven or double boiler. Do not overheat.
2. Thoroughly mix the sugar into the butter, stirring well.
3. Add the two eggs and, with a power mixer, blend the mixture until light yellow in color.
4. Add the milk and flour and continue to blend until mixture is smooth. The batter should flow readily but slowly off a measuring spoon for a thin, yet easy to handle krumkake.
5. Any of a variety of flavorants such as vanilla extract (1/2 tsp.), grated lemon rind (1/2 tsp.), almond extract (1/2 tsp.) or ground almonds (1 tbsp.) may be added to vary the flavor.
6. Using the KrumKake Express™, start with the Color Control Dial at 2-1/2. One tablespoon of batter will make a 5" wafer. Lock the lid latch for a thinner and crispier krumkake.
7. Add batter to the plate only when the green "Ready" light is ON. In about 30 seconds, the red "Baking" light will turn ON.
8. When the green light comes ON again, open the lid of the KrumKake Express™ and inspect the krumkake for color.
9. Cook until golden brown and remove promptly.
10. Roll onto the Cone Form quickly while the krumkake is still hot.

Eat plain or fill with your favorite dessert filling. Delicious. Enjoy!

We Will Always Bee With You ...

It was 10 years ago today that my dear friend Melissa lost her battle to Cystic Fibrosis.

When I started high school I was terrified. I was moving to high school where I didn't get to be with anyone from middle school. I remember walking through the double doors and literally running into Melissa. Although I almost knocked her over, she had this smile on her face and started talking with me. She made me feel so at ease when I was so scared.

Immediately we became friends. She was such an inspiration. She had goals, drive to find a cure and strength when she knew her time was near. She was always smiling and laughing. She fought her disease with bravery and poise! After she passed, our school held a candleight vigil for her in our school gym. I remember so many people were there to pay tribute to her. Later on that day, we went to the courtyard and lit candles with paper rings around them. They were covered in bumble bee stickers. Melissa loved bumble bee's. The rings also carried the words "We will always bee with you!"

This halloween I have no plans but the hubby will be going out with the boys.

I went to the doctor yesterday for a swine flu follow up { wasn't improving as much as I was wanting too } and was ordered to take it easy. So, between naps & tricker treaters I am hoping to make some new pieces for my Etsy shop!!! I have been getting a lot of inspiration and can't wait to put it into something fabulous.

Recipe of the Week { Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes }

It is no secret that I heart yummy, delicious cupcakes. Probably { no definitely } my fave dessert!!! So many flavors, combinations. The other day I came across this blog, The Cupcake Activist. Does she not have the best job ever ... jealous!!!

Maybe I will make some of these for Thanksgiving in SJ. My mom-in-law loves Guinness!!!

Ingredients

Cupcake
1 cup Guinness
1 stick, plus 1 tbs unsalted butter
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
2 cups dark brown sugar
3/4 cup sour cream
2 eggs
1 tbs vanilla extract
2 cups flour
2 1/2 tsp baking soda

Frosting
1/3 C butter
1 T milk
4 C powdered sugar***
4 T Bailey's Irish Cream***
1 1/2 T Jameson Whiskey***

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350; line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

Combine the Guinness and the butter, chopped into 1-inch chunks, in a large sauce pan, and heat to melt the butter.

Remove from heat, and whisk in the cocoa and sugar.

In a bowl, whisk the sour cream and the eggs and vanilla, then add to the beer mixture.

Sift together the flour and baking soda, and fold in the batter.

Pour into muffin molds and bake or 25 minutes, or until inserted cake tester comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes, remove from muffin tin, and cool completely on a rack.

Allow butter to reach near room temperature then cream at high speed with an electric mixer.

Add in milk and 1 cup of the powdered sugar to create a wet and thick mixture.

Add in the remaining liquids and mix until frosting is spreadable.

*** Vary the amount of alcohol to taste.***

***More or less powdered sugar may be required to reach desired consistency.***

Update!!! I went to the doctor this morning. While he had to send out some labwork he is 95% positive I have H1N1. Yep, swine flu!!! *ugh* Now, I am on Tamiflu and ordered to stay put and do ABSOLUTELY nothing. It is so funny how much you want to get out and do things when you aren't allowed...

Still Feeling { AWFUL }

After a week of be quarantined to the couch, I have decided that a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning is a must! I usually try and kick colds myself { and it usually works } but this one is holding on with a vengence. But, with all this time on my hands I have been looking on the bright side; my DVR has never been this clear, my nails have never been this pretty { without going to get a mani }, I haven't had to clean anything and I have been enjoying long baths and a ton of naps!

While I have not been in quite the mood to blog, I have been internet surfing a lot to pass the time. I have to admit, I am really into the whole Rock n' Romance look right now. Flowing tops, fun jeans & big statement jewelry/accessories. I found some great pieces at Free People { Shock, I know! } that completely fit the bill.

Weekend { Recap }

What a weekend... what a Saturday... I am exhausted!

After cake baking and gift wrapping the night before, my Saturday started with Hayden's 10th birthday bowling extravaganza! Tons of kids, pizza, { diet } soda, silly bowling shoes, presents and arcade games. Couldn't have been funner. { or tiring }

That night was Girl's Night Out!!! We went to our typical spot... Tia Lou's. { after a quick visit to Belltown Billiards } Good times were had by all and after dancing the night away I HAD to indulged in a 2 am Seattle tradition, the cream cheese hot dog!!! Of course without a bun, but equally delicious!!! Photos to come ...

Sunday I spent the day being domestic while the mister locked himself in his man cave for football. 2 naps, 3 loads of laundry and 1 clean house later, Dexter was on and I finally got to spend some time with my hubby.

It has been a week of lines and very rude people but I finally am a Janes. My new license came in the mail last night and although I HATE my photo { who doesn't } I couldn't be more excited to show it off!

But, after visitng the courthouse to get my marriage license, the Dept. of Licensing and the Social Security office I have decided my passport will be staying Carlson. Hey, I just got it. It's not even broken in yet, and well to be honest ... I am done with the madness name changing brings { for now }.

Recipe of the Week

I did not get a chance to post my "Recipe of the Week" last week so I am making up for it with something that looks amazingly delicious!!!! I will definitely be throwing the diet out the window to taste one of these babies.

Tres Leches Coconut Cupcakes with Dulce de Leche Buttercream

2 (14-ounce) cans sweetened condensed milk, divided
1 (18.25-ounce) box yellow cake mix + ingredients to make mix
1 teaspoon coconut extract
1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
1 (13.5 ounce) can coconut milk (not cream of coconut)
2 sticks butter, softened to room temperature
3 cups powdered sugar
About 1 cup shredded, flaked coconut, toasted

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. To make the dulce de leche: pour 1 can of the sweetened condensed milk in a glass pie plate or similar size glass casserole dish; cover with foil. Place the pie plate in a large roasting pan where it can sit flat. Pour hot water into the roasting pan to a depth of about halfway up the pie plate. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 25 minutes or until caramel colored. Let cool completely.

Mix up cake according to package directions using recommended ingredients and adding 1 teaspoon coconut extract to the batter. Pour into paper lined cupcake pans filling about 3/4 full. Bake according to package directions.

While cupcakes are baking, whisk together the remaining can of sweetened condensed milk, the evaporated milk, and the coconut milk. When cupcakes come out of the oven, inject each of them with the milk mixture using an injection needle and about 1/2 to 3/4 ounce in each cupcake. Cool completely before frosting.

To make the frosting, beat the butter on high speed until light and fluffy. Add the dulce de leche and beat until smooth. Add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time and beat until smooth and light and fluffy.

Frost cupcakes generously with frosting, then sprinkle with toasted coconut. Keep refrigerated.

I have recently rediscovered the band Jack's Mannequin. I first got hooked on their music when I heard the song "Mixed Tape" on the radio years ago. Somehow, I lost track of them and the other day I was watching old episodes of One Tree Hill { yea, I know! } and they just happened to be preforming. When I went to their website to check it out, I realized there was so much I had missed out on... and now, I am completely hooked { AGAIN }!!!!

With fall in full swing here in Washington, I have been back to my morning routine of Chai Tea Lattes { via my amazing Keurig machine } and toasted wheat bagels.

And, since I have always been a tea fan a few weeks ago I tried out this store call Teavana. It is like heaven. They have so many nummy flavors to try.

My faves are the Honeybush Vanilla Herbal Tea, Pear Luna White Tea, and Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea.

Stop { Domestic Violence }

On January 5, 2007 my friend Arthur's sister, Marisa Peach, lost her life due to domestic violence. Arthur and his family started an amazing foundation called Steps Against Domestic Violence { SADV }. Today, my sister Kelli and I had the honor to walk in the 2nd Annual Steps Against Domestic Violence Walk around Greenlake. With October being Domestic Violence Awareness month, it was the perfect time to remember, celebrate and raise awareness for both the victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Proceeds of the event go to New Beginnings' Children's Services.

New Beginnings' mission is to provide shelter, advocacy and support for battered women and their children...

Recipe of the Week { Easy Pork with Hoisin Sauce }

Earlier this week I came across a new show on The Food Network called Ask Aida. I think over the weekend I am going to try this recipe. I already have all the ingredients { pretty much } so that's perfect!

Ingredients
1 pound pork tenderloin
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
Salt and pepper
4 medium garlic cloves, smashed
12 ounces green beans, cut into 1-inch lengths
1/4 cup dry sherry or shaoxing wine
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish, optional
Thinly sliced green onions, for garnish, optional
Steamed rice, for serving, if desired

Directions
Trim excess fat and silverskin from tenderloin. Cut into 1-inch pieces, pat with paper towels, rub with some sesame oil, and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Place a medium skillet over medium high heat, add 1 tablespoon sesame oil. When oil shimmers, add pork and cook until browned and cooked partially, about 2 to 3 minutes per side.
Remove pork to a plate, return skillet to stove, and add garlic. When garlic is fragrant, add green beans and stir occasionally until browned, about 3 minutes. Add sherry and hoisin, stir to combine, and cook until beans are tender and sauce is reduced slightly and sherry smell is cooked off, about 4 minutes. Return pork to pot, turn to coat in sauce, season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions, if using, and serve over rice.

October { Breast Cancer Awareness Month }

Earlier today, Shelby Nycole { my awesome sis in law }, blogged about Breast Cancer Awareness month and what we can all do to help find a cure for a disease that affects so many women { and men } every day. As someone who lost her Grandma to breast cancer, I want to say thank you to everyone who walks, donates, or shops to raise awareness!!!

Last year I was given the opportunity to walk with my co-workers as well as help sponsor and raise money for the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" in Sacramento. It was such an amazing and touching experience to see my co-worker Mattie walk as a survivor and now after a relapse she is fighting to keep that survivor title. While I am won't be walking this year, I will be donating { and hopefully shopping }.

And remember, you don't have to be someone who has been affected by breast cancer to make a difference and raise awareness! Young or old, male or female, we can all "Make Strides Against Breast Cancer".

Tonight my boys { The SJ Sharks } hit the ice for the beginning of the 2009-2010 season against the Colorado Avalanche. I must admit, I have never been the sports watcher but 2 years ago Aunt Candy made me love hockey. While I am definitely not a FANATIC like her, I am still a fan and I am so excited for hockey season to be back. With Rob as the new captain and Big Joe and Dan backing him I see a Stanley Cup in SJ's future ...

White Hot Chocolate

Ingredients
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 cup heavy cream
4 cups half-and-half
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vanilla whipped topping, for garnish
Mint leaf, for garnish

Directions
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine white chocolate chips and heavy cream. Stir continuously until white chocolate chips have completely melted. Stir in the half-and-half, and vanilla extract. Stir occasionally until heated through. Pour into mugs and top with a dollop of vanilla whipped topping and garnish with mint leaf.

Weekend + Recipe of the Week

There are big plans in the Janes household this weekend. I am helping a friend move tomorrow{ yikes } and then Dustin and I are off to the bar to celebrate Jackson's birthday with everyone. HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACKSON!!!! Sunday, Dustin will be at Qwest field with the boys to watch the Seahawks kick some butt and I will be logging in some mother, daughter, sister time and playing with my new nephew pup { Koji }. I definitely see a glass of wine and my DVR in my future tonight.

Since I have been cooking a lot lately I have been searching the web for new recipes to try. It has definitely been a hit or miss situation so good thing Dustin has been open minded.

This week's "Recipe of the Week" is Parmesan and Asparagus Risotto. I have been hooked on Risotto lately and this recipe is so DELISH.

1 lb. fresh asparagus
1 med. onion (1 c. chopped)
3 tbsp. butter or olive oil & 1 tbsp. for the end
1 1/2 c. Arborio rice
1/2 c. dry white wine
5 to 5 1/2 c. chicken broth, heated to simmering
1/2 c. freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 c. fresh chopped parsley
Ground black pepper

Cut up asparagus in 2 inch pieces minus the end of stems. Chop the onion. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Saute the onion until soft not brown (2 to 3 minutes). Stir in rice uncooked. Cook for 1 minute, stirring rice into butter and onions. Add the wine and bring to boil, stirring constantly. When most of wine is absorbed add first 1/2 cup of chicken broth.

Cook rice at gentle boil, stirring frequently. Continue to add broth in 1/2 cup portions as it is absorbed until 5 cups of broth is used up. Add the asparagus after the first 10 minutes of adding the broth. Use last 1/2 cup of broth if rice still tastes too firm. When ready the risotto will have a creamy sauce. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in remaining tablespoon of butter, Parmesan cheese, parsley and ground pepper. Serve at once. Preparation time: up to 1 hour.

Lately I have been feeling inspired to redecorate our master bedroom. It is always the last room I decorate and this house hasn't been any different. Needless to say it needs help. I have been watching HGTV to get inspired and it has definitely created a monster. I am addicted!

#1 - I love the 4 framed photos (perfect for wedding photos) and the clean, simple bed frame.

#2 - The earth tones in this one are what I love. So relaxing and cool.

#3 - Perfect combination of feminine and masculine. Also, the stone wall is amazing. My next home will definitely have one.

Yesterday, my sister and I went to the pet store to visit my new nephew puppy. He is so adorable and sweet { hopefully his big brother Sheebz agrees }. I can't wait til he comes home this week and I can log in some serious pup time.

So now for the poll ... naming the puppy. My sister and brother in law came up with one name and I think another is MUCH better so I leave it up to you.

It's Friday and 2 days until the Emmy's!!

This week, I finally got my Etsy shop up and running. Even better, I've sold 4 pieces so far.

This weekend we have no official plans. Amazing!!!

Unofficial plans -- make more necklaces { if I am feeling inspired } finish thank you notes from the wedding { yes, yes still not done } and stain the fence for our landlord { hopefully I can get the hubby to take over that task though }

BIG BONUS, the weather is perfect today!!! If it lasts the weekend, I will definitely be enjoying some sunshine.

This weekend was filled with good food, great weather and amazing company! Saturday morning I met up with Bria Lynn for some chocolate chip pancakes and memosas then after over indulging ourselves we hit the pool to soak up some amazing Seattle sun. I can not believe in mid-September we had weather in the mid-80's. Crazy!

Saturday night, Dustin and I hit up the Time Out in Snohomish to celebrate the 28th birthdays of Justin and Hyrum { yep, best friends and born on the same day!!! }. Definitely an evening of people watching, awesome music and a few too many pitchers of Stella.

Our Sunday was filled with endless football games in the man cave and endless Lifetime movies in the living room. We topped it off with some Parmesan Risotto and Shrimp Scampi. Delicious.

21 years ago today, my awesome parents got married. I can't imagine two people better meant for each other or to call Mom and Brookie. Happy anniversary and congratulations.

I can not believe that it is already September. Summer is almost over and fall is just around the corner. Before we know it, it will be Thanksgiving, Christmas and making New Years resolutions for 2010 but the best part of early September is knowing the fair is just about here. The Puyallup Fair is one thing I have to do every year and want to spend the whole weekend enjoying it. Rides, games, exhibits, fattening food, and fun!!! I can already taste the elephant ears, curly fries, corn on the cob and my favorite... scones.

Another great thing about early September is sifting through your wardrobe and pulling out all your cozy sweaters, knee high socks, and scarves. Whenever the seasons start to change I find myself visiting my favorite clothing websites for those perfect items to add to my wardrobe. So, I leave you with some fun accesories and tops for the new season from Free People.

Chelsea Handler is Hilarious

Every night at 11 pm you are most likely to see me plopped down on the couch, watching Chelsea Lately on E! It is kind of ironic that I love Chelsea Handler so much because she makes fun of all the reality TV shows I love but she is just hilarious and I can not help myself.

With my recent time off, I have been reading her book "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea." It is a memoir of her life in her words and with her humor. I can't wait to finish this one and read her first book "My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands" (yes, I know, I am a little out of order).

Attention { Cheese Lovers }

Okay, if you are like my hubby and hopelessly, endlessly in love with cheese then the following recipe is a MUST TRY! A few months ago my sister came over and made this amazing macaroni and cheese for Dustin and I, so the other night I decided to give it a shot.

Cook 32 oz. bag macaroni pasta al dente (it is going to cook a lot more so DO NOT overcook). Drain pasta and set aside.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

In a cast iron skillet, melt 3 Tbls. butter over medium heat.

Saute in diced onion and garlic for 4-5 minutes (amount really depends on preference, I skip onion and use about 1-2 Tbls. minced garlic).

Slowly stir in 4 cups half and half.

Add 2-3 sprigs fresh thyme and let infuse in milk mixture about 5 minutes then remove and toss.

Add in 5 cups shredded cheese (any kind of cheese works; mozzarella, parmesan, mild cheddar, smoked cheddar, blue cheese...).

Once cheese is melted, stir in cooked pasta and top with bread crumbs.

Cover with lid and continue cooking for 25-30 minutes in over.

Enjoy!!!

This past week has definitely been filled with nice weather, creativity, birthdays and a ton of fun. Saturday was my sister Nicole's birthday and party for one of my oldest and dearest friends, Miss Bria Lynn. A group of us went out to dinner in Seattle and then to the Triple Door for this amazing burlesque show { Nightcap w/ Lily Verlaine }. So much fun, definitely recommended! Yesterday, was filled with errands and enjoying time and sunshine with Kelli. It was also a day of birthdays for Bria Lynn and Gran! Happy Birthday again to you both!! To round of a busy weekend of birthdays, Happy Birthday today to my sister Kelli!!!

It's the top of the 9th. Mariner's are winning 1-0. Everyone is having a great time and just about ready to go home with another win under our belt when the Sox hit a home run with 2 men on the bases. We loose 1-3. Still great time though!
